When 'Just Copy It to IT Components' Turns Into 300 Manual Steps

A customer came to us with what sounded like a simple request: "We want the AI Governance fields on IT Components and Assets too, not just Applications."

Fair enough. LeanIX ships AI Governance as a standard feature — but only for Applications. And you cannot just copy field definitions to other fact sheet types.

The Math That Made Us Sweat

Let's count what "AI Governance" actually means in the meta model:

  • 16 fields, some with carefully configured dropdowns
  • 28 dropdown options across those fields (each with translations)
  • Multi-language labels for everything in 6 languages
  • Conditional field rules ("show this field only when that field has value X")
  • Section configuration and field ordering

All in all, you're looking at:

300+ manual configuration steps.

That's a few hours of clicking through the admin UI and testing. And we haven't even talked about typos, forgotten translations, or that one conditional rule you'll inevitably misconfigure at step 247.

The Almost-Solution

Our Transport Management tool could already copy fields and sections between Fact Sheet types and workspaces. We've used it dozens of times.

But AI Governance has something more: Conditional Fields. Those rules that say "only show field X when field Y is set to value Z."

And our transport tool had no idea how to process and transform conditions across fact sheet types.

Making It Work

So we extended it. The transport tool now:

  • Reads all conditional field configurations from the source
  • Maps field references to the target Fact Sheet type
  • Recreates the exact same logic on the target

The entire AI Governance section — fields, dropdowns, translations, conditions, everything — now transports with a single click of a button.

Time to transport: ~3 minutes.
Manual errors: Zero.
Customer happiness: High.

Beyond AI Governance

The best part? This isn't limited to AI Governance. Any section, any set of fields, any conditional logic — if it exists on one Fact Sheet type, we can now transport it to another. Same workspace, different workspace, doesn't matter.
